Description

This module provides you with a broad background knowledge of the fundamental physical metallurgy of alloy steels, stainless steels, aluminium and titanium alloys, in order to demonstrate the purpose and effect of alloying and its implications for the processing, microstructure and performance of structural aerospace components. Topics covered will include: physical metallurgy, secondary processing, heat treatment, machining, fabrication and finishing of the main classes of alloy employed as well as relationships between processing, microstructure and performance, and their implication for alloy design.
